Education, Nutrition and Primary Healthcare Provision in Rural China

SpeakersScott Rozelle Senior Fellow in the Food Security and Environment Program and the Walter H.Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, Freeman Spogli Institute (FSI) for International Studies. Currently, his work on poverty has its full focus on human capital, including issues of rural health, nutrition and education.

                     Sean Sylvia, currently an assistant professor at Renmin University of China and an affiliate of the Rural Education Action Program at     Stanford University. Through empirical research, his main area of research focuses on optimizing the delivery of basic services in China's rural areas and migrant communities. 

Abstract

The speaking of Scott tried to identifying the source of China’s urban-rural inequality. The speaking paid special attention to inequality and middle income trap, to how unequal China’s human capital is and to the source of the inequality. Sean gave us direct evidence on the quality of rural primary care in village, township, and county across 21 counties, 210 townships in 3 provinces (Sichuan, Shanxi, and Anhui). Also, he illustrated an in-depth study of tuberculosis detection.
